Hundreds of Americans exposed to the coronavirus are back in the U.S., evacuated by the State Department from a cruise ship in Japan.

Fourteen of those Americans tested positive for coronavirus.

Why is exposure to the virus by Americans traveling abroad contributing to the increase in coronavirus cases in the United States?

The coronavirus pandemic has been wreaking havoc across the globe for several months now, with several countries experiencing an exponential surge in cases. The United States has not been spared by this outbreak, with several reports indicating an increasing number of infections and deaths arising from the virus. One significant contributing factor to this trend is the number of Americans who were exposed to coronavirus back in the U.S.

Reports indicate that several Americans who traveled abroad were unknowingly exposed to the virus, leading to the transmission of the disease upon their return to the United States. The United States reported its first case of coronavirus on January 20, 2020. Since then, the number of positive cases has been on a steady rise, with the country currently reporting over ten million confirmed cases.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has advised against all forms of non-essential travel, indicating that a significant number of the reported cases were from individuals who traveled overseas. The CDC further recommends travelers to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arriving in the United States. This measure is aimed at reducing the transmission of the virus from infected persons to others.

Several states have also implemented additional measures meant to curb the spread of the virus. For instance, some governors have issued orders mandating travelers to quarantine upon arrival or banned visitors from states with high cases of infection. Despite these efforts, the increase in cases suggests that a lot more needs to be done.

Therefore, it is important for Americans to observe caution while traveling and to comply with all the recommended guidelines issued by the CDC. They should maintain social distancing, avoid crowded spaces, wash their hands regularly, and wear masks as an added precaution.

In conclusion, the upsurge in coronavirus cases in the United States is a cause for concern, and the exposure of Americans to coronavirus back in the U.S. is a significant factor in the escalating numbers. To minimize the spread of the virus, all Americans must observe the recommended guidelines and measures issued by relevant authorities. We must all take responsibility and work together to flatten the curve and end this pandemic.
