The rise of COVID-19 has spurred a world-wide front against a relentless, invisible assailant.
But as more and more high-profile cases emerge, grim details of the novel coronavirus and its physical manifestations are becoming very real. Along with some of the biggest names in entertainment, here are the musicians struggling with the virus, and telling the tale.
Music producer Andrew Watt, who has worked with Post Malone, Cardi B, and Ozzy Osbourne, announced that he tested positive for the coronavirus. In a series of posts from the editor of DJ Booth, Watt shared his account of the rapid progression of the infection that ultimately led the 29-year old to be placed on a breathing machine.
On the morning of March 6, 2020, a bedridden Watt said he felt like he had been quote “hit by a bus.” But a doctor claimed that he couldn’t possibly have the virus since he hadn’t left the country, and spends all of his time in the studio or at home. Watt revealed that he became “delusional” from a frequent dry cough and an E.R. visit where he was given a pneumonia diagnosis, but was refused a coronavirus test due to quote “federal regulations.” Later, a private doctor tested him for COVID-19, and confirmed the infection. Eleven days after his diagnosis, Watt said his fevers had lessened, but he still struggled to breathe. He pleaded for others to be mindful of the elderly and those with compromised immune systems, saying,
“I can’t stress this enough. This is not a joke. Stay inside, stay sanitized. Please stop everything and take care of yourselves and the people you love around you, until we are all through this.”
