DiCaprio, who plays fading TV star Rick Dalton, said he was drawn to the film’s themes of nostalgia and the bittersweet nature of success. “It’s about an industry that’s changing rapidly, and you have all these characters that are sort of grappling with their place in it,” he said. “And then you have this larger story about a changing time in America and the world.”
Pitt, who plays Rick’s stunt double Cliff Booth, explained how the film provided an opportunity to delve into a unique time in Hollywood’s history. “It’s a great era to revisit, and to present it in a way that’s not just an homage, but it’s also a commentary, I think, was interesting,” he said. “It feels like a time capsule.”
For Robbie, playing the role of Sharon Tate, and being able to bring her character to life once again, was a moving experience. “It was a really unique opportunity to play her in a way that isn’t morbid or voyeuristic,” she explained. “She’s just a ray of light, and I hope that I did her justice.”
The movie has been praised for its all-star cast, as well as its sharp writing and stunning cinematography. It is a film that pays homage to a bygone era while also critiquing the darker elements that lay beneath the glamour of Hollywood.
