Cecilia Kass isn’t imagining it — someone she can’t see is hunting her.

Universal Pictures and Blumhouse Productions have dropped the official trailer for The Invisible Man, a ground-up reimagining of H.G. Wells’ century-old monster tale that trades old-school movie-monster theatrics for something closer to a psychological thriller about escaping an abuser. The film hits theaters wide on February 28, 2020. Written and directed by Leigh Whannell — the co-creator of the Saw franchise and the filmmaker behind Upgrade and Insidious: Chapter 3 — the movie stars Emmy winner Elisabeth Moss as a woman who can’t convince anyone that the man who supposedly killed himself is still very much alive, and very much in the room with her.

A Monster Movie Rebuilt Around Domestic Abuse

The Cast Carrying the Story

Moss anchors the film as Cecilia, with Aldis Hodge playing James Lanier, the San Francisco detective and childhood friend who takes her in, and Storm Reid as his daughter Sydney, both of whom become targets once the attacks escalate. Harriet Dyer plays Cecilia’s sister Emily, whose own safety becomes collateral damage in Adrian’s campaign. Oliver Jackson-Cohen, previously seen in Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, plays Adrian — a role that’s largely unseen for most of the run time by design.

Blumhouse’s Jason Blum produces alongside Kylie du Fresne of Goalpost Pictures, with Whannell serving as writer, director and executive producer.
